At one time the thought of learning piano or even just trying to improve your piano technique online would have been ridiculous but as web video technology has moved on it’s now a valid alternative for the discerning student..

Finding the Best piano lessons online is quite a challenge for the novice musician and the problem is more people would love to learn how to play piano but don’t always have the money available to pay for private piano lessons so being able to study piano tchniques online at a much cheaper rate is a great alternative option. Why buy expensive Piano Books offline when you can buy a whole Piano Technique Course for the same money and teach your Child Piano as you’re learning yourself?

Finding the best course for piano techniques is a tricky thing to do for the novice. You need to be a pianist already to be able to judge which  piano course will give you the best piano lessons and tips, right?

Deciding to do something about the demand for easy piano lessons online I spent a couple of months in the summer of 2009 (the concert season always goes quieter for me in the summer) studying all the “Improve your Piano Technique” courses available.

I was looking for several different “must haves ” in all these online piano courses and to my surprise many of the courses I looked at fell by the wayside for more then a few of the criteria.

The criteria I considered were:

	The Price:This was certainly a consideration but not the most important as all the “learn how to play piano online” courses I investigated were certainly cheaper then traditional private lessons.
	Video:Any respectable piano technique course would have to include video piano lessons and obviously this was an important consideration as the main reason I feel I can recommend online courses is the advancement in web video technology.
	Audio: When trying to learn how to play piano it’s very important to be able to hear what you should be sounding like. This is why teaching in person has been the only realistic method until now. There had to be plenty of audio examples in any “piano lessons  online” course for it to get past my demands for this criteria.
	Child AND Adult Friendly: As probably 80% of child piano lessons enquiries are Parents trying to help their children learn piano it was important that any “piano lessons online” course I recommend should be in simple enough terms so that a child can progress easily and yet I didn’t want the course to be “talking down” to the adult pupils either. The best private teachers know the best methods for helping children learn piano and so should the best Piano techniques Courses.
	Diversity of Styles: Everybody has their own type of favorite music. I felt it imperative that everybody has the same chance of success doing a lpiano techniques course regardless of their personal taste in Music.

Many of the lessons included audio recording but no video. The videos that are included with the course are not songs. They are mostly a view from over the shoulders of a player showing a certain technique.

The games are a really neat part of this course they cover sight-reading, pitch recognition and chord identification.

Rocket Piano does offer e-mail support and their response was very quick and helpful when I sent them an e-mail.

Even though Rocket Piano offers some really great piano lesson materials the product does not have the ability to track your progress and obviously can’t give a student feedback on their playing.

In the end when considering this course is very inexpensive ($39.95) I think it’s a great value for the money.

If you can afford it then the hard copy version of the course is probably more practical. It is quite a bit more expensive at $199.95 but does offer a much more convenient way of learning the course and of course you never have to worry about transferring files and all that stuff when you change your computer or even worse worry about losing the course completely should your computer die on you before you have a chance to transfer the files. As I said it is more expensive but still very reasonable compared to the expense of live private piano lessons.
